- This hackathon is open to high school and college students only
- Participants must be currently enrolled in high school or college at the time of the event
- All participants must register on Devpost and check in at the venue
- Minors (under 18) may need parental consent—check registration requirements
- We will be matching you with other hackathon particpants for teams.
- All projects must be built during the hackathon timeframe
- You may use pre-existing libraries, frameworks, and open-source code, but the core application must be original work created at this event
- Projects must address the challenge: building a career skills gap analyzer
- Projects must be deployed and accessible online by the submission deadline
- Final submissions must be made on Devpost by the deadline—late submissions will not be accepted
- All participants retain full ownership of their projects
- By submitting, you grant BDPA Indianapolis permission to showcase your project for promotional purposes
- Ensure you have the right to use any third-party resources, APIs, or assets in your project
- Judges' decisions are final
- Projects will be evaluated on: functionality, user experience, impact, code quality, and creativity
- You must be present at the event to be eligible for prizes
- Prize distribution will be announced at the closing ceremony
The BDPA Indianapolis Hackathon is dedicated to providing a safe, comfortable, and harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of:
- Gender
- Gender identity and expression
- Age
- Sexual orientation
- Disability
- Physical appearance
- Body size
- Race
- Ethnicity
- Nationality
- Religion
- Political views
- Previous hackathon attendance or lack of
- Computing experience or lack of
- Chosen programming language or tech stack
Harassment includes, but is not limited to:
- Offensive verbal comments related to gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, or political views
- Sexual images in public spaces
- Deliberate intimidation, stalking, or following
- Photography or audio/video recording against reasonable consent
- Sustained disruption of talks, presentations, or other events
- Inappropriate physical contact
- Unwelcome sexual attention
- Advocating for, or encouraging, any of the above behavior
Sexual language and imagery is not appropriate at any hackathon venue, including:
- Hacks/projects
- Talks, presentations, or demos
- Workshops
- Any parties associated with the hackathon
- Social media
- Any other online media
- Photography and videography are encouraged for documenting the event
- Participants must be given a reasonable chance to opt out from being photographed or recorded
- If someone objects to having their photograph taken, comply with their request immediately
- It is inappropriate to take photographs in contexts where people have a reasonable expectation of privacy (in bathrooms, sleeping areas, or private conversations)
- The projects created at our hackathon are equally subject to the anti-harassment policy
- Do not create projects that harass, demean, or discriminate
- Sponsors and partners are also subject to this anti-harassment policy
- Sponsors should not use sexualized images, activities, or other material
- Sponsor representatives should not use sexualized clothing/uniforms/costumes or otherwise create a sexualized environment
If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns:
- Contact a member of hackathon staff immediately (staff will be wearing identifying badges/shirts)
- Staff will be clearly identified and available throughout the event
Hackathon staff will:
- Take all concerns seriously and respond promptly
- Help participants contact local security or law enforcement if needed
- Maintain confidentiality to the extent possible
If a participant engages in harassing behavior, hackathon organizers may take any action deemed appropriate, including:
- Warning the offender
- Expulsion from the hackathon
- Banning from future BDPA Indianapolis events
- Reporting behavior to local law enforcement
- Reporting behavior to the participant's school or institution
Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately.
We expect all participants, sponsors, volunteers, organizers, judges, and guests to follow these rules at all hackathon venues, workshops, and hackathon-related social events.
